Hello dear readers,
In the wake of opening our new studio, I've behaved with extreme negligence towards my blog, and for that I apologize.
However, I've made it up to you by making a sleeker, sexier and more frequently updated blog here:
http://www.blog.mcclanahanstudio.com/
If you haven't noticed, we have a new website - www.mcclanahanstudio.com - and we're in the full swing of things with our studio. Check out the new blog for more info.
To my RSS followers: please remove this blog from your feed and add our new one! I promise it will be worth your while.

McClanahan Studio
Ladies and Gentlemen, I have a very special announcement to make!
Alex and I have found a studio space and we're in the process of making it SWEET so we can make art full time. It's a relatively nerve racking process (starting a small business in a horrible economy), but we've been blessed with a steady stream of work and we're thrilled about the endeavor. We're finishing up painting tomorrow and we only need 1 wood desk and 1 sweet coffee table to finish the furnishings (if you have either of those things you're wanting to sell, let me know!)

As part of starting a studio, I'm able to shoot types of things I was never able to shoot before. Example: children and babies! I recently shot my first baby (don't quote that out of context) and her extremely cute older sister:

AND, last but not least, go to Cafe Diem on Mainstreet! I have an exhibition of mostly new work on display for the next 3.5 weeks (after which point it will be moved into the studio), so get out of the house and go support your local artist/coffee vendor!

My camera can shoot lasers
Or at least when I'm a comic book character. Remember our Halloween costumes?:

Ben Mackey, an outstanding artist/senior that I had the privilege of shooting with a while back decided he would comic-bookitize us:

Sweet?!?!
Yeah, I think so. The above image doesn't showcase my laser camera, but it's part of the character.

Super Techs, Assemble!
The last 6 months I've been working as an IT tech at McFarland Clinic. Yesterday I took a picture of myself and the other techs. We single handedly keep several hundred doctors and thousands of employees afloat with our super duper computer-fixing skillz.
These are the folks I've been spending much of my life with the past 6 months. They are very cool.

TMNT III?
Remember in TMNT III when the turtles go back in time and trade places with 4 crazy Japanese samurai in loin cloths? Then Casey Jones teaches the Japanese dudes about hockey and they beat the heck out of each other with hockey sticks chanting "hockey! hockey! hockey! (in Japanese accents)?"
That's always the first thought that comes to my mind when I think of hockey. Aside from that I really don't have any experience or preconceptions of the sport.
I shot some senior photos at an outdoor ice rink in Ames a couple days ago (that's right, we have an outdoor ice rink! Who woulda thunk?) and it was SWEET! I really wish I knew how to skate now. Here's the first favorite I've edited so far:

Also - Exciting news! Alex and I are officially looking for Studio space in Ames. I'm going full-time photography this summer, which means I'll be shooting as many seniors as I can take on. If you are currently a junior, or know any, please spread the word! We're combining our expertise to create the coolest senior photos Central Iowa has ever seen! Much legwork still has to be done between now and then, but we're accomplishing things at a rapid pace (branding, pricing, prepping). That means new web site, new logo, new studio name and lots of other top-secret new stuff.
If you have facebook, I just updated our facebook page with loads of never-seen-before photos! Please check it out, and please enjoy.

Grandpa Kanye
The 2 images posted the last 2 days are part of a treasure trove I'm finally getting around to unveiling. I took a lot of photos during my travels in Europe and I'm finally getting around to sorting through them. I'll be posting some more of my favorites here as I get to them. If you like what you see, fine art prints can be ordered through my web site. Many of them will also be on display next month at Cafe Diem in downtown Ames (from Feb 8 - March 15). More on that when I get more details.
Today's photos are personal, snapshots from this weekend. The photos aren't nearly as cool as the people in them. My bro, My gramps, My wife (and I) played cards, and everybody had their poker faces on:

Yes, gramps is wearing Kanye West glasses. Except henceforth and forevermore I think they should be referred to as "Grandpa Ed glasses" for 3 reasons:
1) Ed could cream Kanye in a fistfight
2) Ed could cream Kanye in a rap battle
3) Ed is much less of a sissy than Kanye (have you heard his latest album?! It's more emo than Fall Out Boy blended with 3 cups of used razorblades)
I'll leave you with this closeup:
